Want to refresh your décor without buying all new furnishings?  Here are a few helpful tips on updating your look without a complete renovation:
  • Reinvent your larger, upholstered pieces: Find complementary fabrics in various textures and patterns to replace your existing upholstery.  Hint: be careful of very busy prints as you may tire of them more quickly.

  • Accessorize: Since you have saved on the cost of new furniture, spend a little on pillows to add instant personality to your main pieces.  Pick your favorite prints and colors to add dimension and interest to the room.  For additional character, add tall grasses from your local art or craft store into cylindrical vases for a great table arrangement or mantel topper.

  • Wall color: Take this opportunity to change your wall and/or trim color and even paint the ceiling to create a different mood in your room.  Tip: when making drastic color changes, always try the color in a small area prior to a total paint overhaul to be sure you like your new hue.

  • Lighten up: Makeover your lamps with new shades, in different colors, textures or shapes for a quick conversion.  For a more intricate project, recover them in one of your favorite fabrics.  Lastly, if you have an old iron fixture that’s grown old, add some zest by painting it a bright color that enhances your current décor.

  • Frame it: For those of you with series of frames adorning your walls consider choosing a color and painting them all to be consistent shade rather than mixing finishes for an instant neat aesthetic.
