Get Creative with Your Interior Finishes

For those of you who have clients building custom homes or if you are a homeowner building a custom home, here are some inspired ideas to spark creativity in your interior finish selections. 

 

Bathroom Finishes: Replace your typical pedestal sink with a large vase or urn as your base topped with an attractive bowl-style sink for a dynamic duo in any powder room.  A recent trip to Thailand inspired this idea (pictured). Personalize this concept with a combination of your choice.  Your favorite architectural salvage shop can be a great place to visit for the perfect base.

 

Lighting:  Think out of the box for contemporary lighting that is  also  eco-friendly.  Marsia Holzer’s lighting is made from pre-existing wrapped wire.  An interesting fit for a modern home.

 

Wall Coverings: Previously glam wallpaper has re-emerged and invigorated the design market with its new twists on textures and patterns.  Tiki by Thibaut Designs (left) with its signature grassy look works nicely in any lowcountry powder room or guest bath.  For instant sophistication, Wandrlust’s Keyline Terra Verte Cranes Wallpaper (right) is an elegant choice.

 

Non-traditional Islands: Mix the past with present with Charleston architectural details in your kitchen.  Blend old Charleston doors, gates, shutters and window panes for accents.  Picture an island with the base surrounded in old Charleston shutters to mask storage underneath or antique window panes showcasing sweetgrass baskets inside. 

 

Color: Spark interest by adding unexpected color through painting door casings and trim to accent a neutral wall.  Also, use accent color to frame wallpaper designs to add extra dimension to your room.
