A stranger attacked Carol on a warm night in June 2002. He stole her car and left her dying outside the medical building she'd just finished cleaning. The trauma induced a stroke that caused her brain to swell. The swelling was so severe that her husband had but two choices for her: death or a life, mostly blind, in a wheelchair.
